Trying to psych your way out, Zandra?

Becky seems to have all the spirit of wet clay, though. Even running away needed too much initiative for her.

I love how bored and vaguely annoyed Zandra looks.

She knows her protagonistness means she can't stay bound for long, so she's just waiting it out.

Now that's quality looking syringes! Made from glass and stainless steel, like in the good old days. Real bitch to clean, though.

I wonder how long demon blood stays good before it starts to coagulate.

Bloo said in the last page that she had to find syringes that specifically would resist melting from Zandra's acid blood.

"I wonder why it isn't eating through the glass"

Acid isn't a big deal for glass. Even Aqua Rega won't touch it (or titanium, iridium, ruthenium, rhenium, tantalum, niobium, hafnium, osmium, or rhodium.A)

Add some fluorine, though, and you get hydrofluoric acid, which WILL do the job. But it would probably also have killed off the protagonists during the time when they were living together and Sandra was burning things with a touch, lick, or sweat. Fluorine ions are much more than a simple acid-burn issue.

I get the feeling Becky was played to set Zandra up, manipulated by Mike and Bloo to make sure it wouldn't be easy for her to have a peaceful resolution with her old friends. And maybe when Becky learns just how she was used...she'll find her spine.

See I don't think Becky is the worst vampire in town....probably the most awkward though. Also I think its a good possibility that she might already know she got played. We'll just have to see how this goes. How long will it take for Bloo to get bored? Cause I see in fighting on the horizon when she does.

I think Zandra hasn't tried to escape, because she doesn't want to fight her "children" - she wants them to figure it out for themselves and fight *for* her.
I think Becky is the first step - there are already other Zandra supporters already - but they need to find their backbone and realize what a good thing they had in Zandra as their mother figure.

I can't wait to see the tide turn and Bloo and Mike get their rear-ends handed to them!!!

That can't happen, though. Zandra is going to have to demonstrate that she can destroy monsters and come out the winner for even the troublemakers to accept her rules. And she's going to have to prove that tying her up, regardless of how fancy it is, will not protect those who attack her, otherwise they'll never stop plotting to try and reduce her to a blood farm.

She won't have to kill a lot of monsters to accomplish this, but she is going to have to escape on her own, and then kill some very powerful creatures (who want to destroy her).

Mr. Casual

This could be one of those situations where Zandra is just slowly, quietly figuring her way out of the chains, but not overtly so. There'll probably come some climactic point where she'll just calmly step out of them, right in Bloo's face, or something.

A Different Mike

I thought it was established (or at least an established claim on {S/Z}andra's part) that she can't be contained.

Of course that was before she had to talk her way out of the cage of hellfire-tempered cemetery fenceposts. But then she did a few "Oh, now I get it" takes during the banishment sidetrip, so it's still not clear if that mechanic is true - even against the nameless chainmaker.

"Nefastis" inscriptions didn't do the job with Tomey's paper. Can we expect it to do the trick with anti-god chains?

Mike cut open the paper trap, though, so we never got to see.

But Zandra isn't just a nefastis, she is also Sandra Eastlake, and she isn't just black and white, she is also purple. If she really wants, I think she can just step out of the chains.

Interesting thought there... Zandra the Nefastis could never escape the chains, but Sandra Eastlake could. Maybe Sandra just has to fully embrace her humanity in order to escape... maybe temporarily shedding her demon form.

If this is the case, Bloo's gonna regret not having the chains wrapped around Zandra in a more "conventional" manner.

Nobody of Import

If it were *that* simple Jack would've pinned her down with the power he possessed- which wasn't working quite as well as Jack had envisioned before Mike cut her fully loose.

I strongly suspect that she can/will just simply step out of even those chains *WHEN* it suits her. She's humoring simpletons and waiting to make her real show of power to them.

The Other Guy

I don't know. I really do think she's trapped and trying to figure a way out. I mean, what's stopping her from escaping RIGHT NOW?

Wouldn't that, theoretically, be a fantastic use of her power? "Hey, you know those chains that you specifically had built to imprison me? I stepped out of them literally fifteen minutes after you and your posse left the house. Here's a note explaining what you SHOULD have done, and some cookies I made while I was bored and free."

Wouldn't THAT send a strong message? I don't think she's humoring anyone, I think she actually can't leave.

Bloo promised her that if she did escape, she'd end up being attacked by a bunch of vampires hopped-up on her stash of drugs. That she'd have to slaughter people whose predicament she feels responsible for, some of whom she genuinely considers to be friends.

Zandra is weighing the options, and deciding. Even her demonic "dad" showed up and said she could do it if she wanted, (and hoped she'd choose the path of violence) don't forget that -- if even he thinks she can slip out of those chains, she probably can.

I suspect that she's waiting on Jack and company to show up and discover that she's not the monster that they think she is, at which point, she'll shrug off the chains as if they were little more than tissue paper.

After which, she'll smack the crap out of Bloo and her cohorts. Whether or not she destroys them is largely dependant upon how much damage that they've caused on her friends and the people of the city. Either way, they aren't going to escape her wrath!
