You'd be amazed what Fireman Squinty misses because of his natural dismissiveness.
So we're a little early this week! Well, it's the least I could do after Thanksgiving mercilessly tore last week's update from your desperate, loving arms like a wicked slaver crushing your hopes and dreams. Maybe this could be the start of a new standard. It's the least I can do to repay the support I get from all my loving readers.
I mean, I assume there's love there. But if you want we can leave it at "like." No pressure.
I've been reading this comic for a long time. I can't remember when, exactly. I've always had a great admiration for your work. Wish I could buy your books, but I don't have the funds.
I love this comic and I look forward to every update. Thanks for all of your hard work!
Thank YOU, Looloopaa. Really, thanks very, very much! I mean that sincerely, because it sincerely means a lot to me to hear that.
I am in much the same boat as Looloopaa. Were it not for the fact that money is a thing which is in limited supply and high demand, I would gladly buy the books of your webcomic. (and a few others that I follow, too!) Perhaps if my situation improves someday in the near-future, I will be able to indulge a little. But for now, I shake my fist at the burden that is student loan debt.
I think, in my case, it's a rather intense case of extreme like.
I've been here since somewhere near the beginning, Joe, and to this day, it amazes and impresses me how well you keep this story so fresh and interesting after all this time. It's all come so far and changed so much since that first chapter, and yet I've only grown more and more invested in knowing what happens next with all these characters. "Love" is definitely a thing! :)
Thanks very much Mr. Casual, the feeling's reciprocated! It's been great having you here through it all!
"Love" works. :) I've been following you for years, and it's been well worth checking back even with some of the truly extended delays there have been. Your stories are fascinating and your art is lovely. <3
Thank you kindly for your esteem Novalyyn, it's truly appreciated!
Also been reading from years ago. I danced a small jig when your updates became regular again.
You are a gentleman and a scholar Joe, truly an inspiration among us.
I first came across Zebra Girl when you ran an ad on Keenspot - the one where Sandra urges Emily to take the money - and have been reading ever since, so I guess it's been a while... :)
(And I remember sending you a GMail invite when those were a thing and you were looking for one... :D)
Yes, it's been a while. Thanks for everything, Leak! That Gmail invite went to good use! And of course it's great just that you enjoy Zebra Girl too!
I want in on this love fest! I've been reading since Keenspot, too. I was the one who dressed up as goth!Crystal a few Halloweens ago! When people ask for webcomic recommendations, I always list Zebra Girl (and Lackadaisy Cats). No idea how many people I've converted, if any, but this is one of three webcomics I read every single week, so there's that. Mr. Joe England, it is ENTIRELY probable that you are the reason I like rabbits so much. This is verging on stupidly cheesy, but you're one of my role models. All those apologies for all of those delays, all that apparent self-loathing, and here you are: a successful, confident creator. I genuinely hope to be at your level someday, if I ever get past the self-loathing bit. You're a unicorn among webcomics, you know: the vast majority of creators stop well before the ten-year mark, but you're going stronger than ever. Anyway, I'm gushing. Thanks for being so awesome, but even more for sharing that awesome with us.
It's only awesome that I have people like you to share it with. Thanks, Rose! I'm sure that whatever level you reach, it'll be the best because it's a level all your own!
Welp, definitely can say that I love your comic. I've been following it for about 10 years now (and yes, I binged all the early ones in one weekend), and your webcomic is one of a very small number I still follow regularly after I had to cut down on the number I was reading to the essentials (i.e. my favorites).
I'm flattered that Zebra Girl is one of your chosen few, Paireon! It's a great compliment!
Well if you're bringing out the big words, of course there's love here.
Love, and a great deal of admiration.
Keep rocking!
Another one more than ok with "love". :) It's been well over a decade since I first began following the (mis)adventures of (Z)Sandra, Crystal, and Jack... thank you for eveything, Joe. Words can't adequately express how much this comic - the world you have built and the inhabitants' lives you detail and chronicle - means to me. Thank you.
Been a heck of a ride, I guess. But only because I could share it with the likes of you, Shiiallah! Thanks for sticking around.
Just adding my appreciation here. I dread to think how many hours it takes to put this together. This comic has change its look so much since the early days and, while I still like them, I am in awe of how things look now. The background detail and shading are a big part of that. You don't always 'see' it at first, as the impact is seamless, but on a second (or more) look there is just so much in there - every brick and more, the texturing. Even the clothing here, with Tomie's flowing patterns of pages and words, while Jack's plaid ignores any contours, due to its nature... I could go on, but then I'd not have a much time to admire ;D
It's enormously validating to know my work is enjoyed. Thanks Eoforyth, that makes it all worthwhile!
I've been following Zebra girl since WAY back, when Mr. Irony (whatever happened to him) turned me on to it in the long long ago. And I've followed it faithfully ever since. Watching you grow as a creator through telling the tale of Zandra and her friends has been a delight and a constant companion through the good years and the bad. I really appreciate your work and dedication.
Oh, Mr. Irony's around. Last I heard he had made a Flash game! He's got a site at https://tomirony.itch.io/.
Anyway, thanks for the faith, Akodo. It's been a delight to have YOU as a companion through the years! Believe me, my work and dedication appreciate you right back.
I remember playing ELA with you! You had the best characters, I always loved your contributions!
Like Joe said, I'm still kicking and making games!
Nice catch. I'm glad that you are continuing to post this. I can't remember when I first saw it, but it was some *mumble* years ago. Your art has gotten better and your inventiveness has not diminished.
Thank you.
You're very, very welcome, Odo. I'm glad you continue to join us here!
Joe, I have been reading seance before your big hiatus, back when you were still on keenspot. And of all the webcomics that i was reading back then yours and something positive are the only two that i still read. From what i have seen its hard to keep a comic going for any whare near as long as you have. As a fellow artist I tip my hat to you for being able to keep the story moving whit out it ever getting stale. there are damm few artist/writers that managed to keep up a story for as long as you have. i wish i know your secret
My secret? Why, it's the great people who read the comic and keep me going! And a bunch of other little things that aren't really wholesome. But mostly it's folks like you, Ilkay!
I love a good surprise, that makes sense when I think about it.
Sorry i'm a bit late too the party. I really like Zebra Girl. It's got one of the best stories I've read and it's just a bit weird in some of the best ways. Your art is great and I can't even express why and how I enjoy this comic. I'll try though. The characters seem like real people and you've managed to make it an interesting story. The entire world seems like a world that could be and it's an interesting world. It seems like a world in which there is quite a good chance hope and good intentions can win though they don't need too. Where people make a difference and magic is coming. I'm probably not describing this as well as I would like but if I'm getting a positive feeling across I suppose that's good enough. So yea I'm a pretty big fan. I rarely say that but this comic is fun and interesting. If I let myself I'm sure I'll go on gushing trying to get out what I like about the comic and I don't have all the time in the world unfortunately. I think you can get the general sentiment.
I couldn't dream of receiving a better sentiment. Thanks for that, Auron, it means a lot! I'd like to say just how much, but I don't have all the time in the world either!
I started reading ZG back in 2002, i believe, my memory is really garbage, and i've loved every single page you do. You made me want to learn how to draw and write and for that, and this amazing comic, you are one of my greatest inspirations for the level of quality and commitment you put in your art.
I wanna buy all your books but i don't know if you ship to Argentina.
Anyway, keep the exelent work, and thank you once again :).
It's the best compliment an artist can ever receive when they're told that they've inspired another artist. Thanks German, thanks very much for letting me know! It'll always be a source of pride to think that I've had an impact on your life.
And by the way, yes! Certainly, I can ship books to Argentina!
I do think I've been following your comic for about a decade now too. I'm so happy the story is still going!
Me too, K, me too! And I'm happy that you're here to share it!
Back in... looks like February 2001, Josh Phillips of Avalon was pointing everyone on the #avalon IRC channel at the old Angelfire site. I've been reading ever since, and have pulled a couple people who wandered away during the more, ah, update-thin periods back in since updates became regular again. I guess you can call that "love".
Close enough for me! Thanks for your efforts, John!
Thank *you* for making a comic that's kept me coming back for fifteen years, even during periods when there often wasn't anything to see.
You're more than welcome, I'm very happy to know my work has provided you with something you feel like coming back to!
