Hello, hello, sorry for keeping you waiting! I'm just awful. But I have to live with that more than you do.
Now, I did mention that there might be a hiatus after this page, but that was wrong. No, it worked out a little differently than I figured, and that break will have to come after next week's page.
I say "break," but it's not really so much of a break for me. But y'see, I would like to resolve this storyline (and the entire comic) in a fluid fashion, and tell the last part of the story in a way that flows naturally for you, the reader. So after the next page I'm going to take some time to create the final pages in such a way that they can be presented more quickly than just once a week. I think that might be for the best, don't you? Bring those last scenes together without the stop and start we've become used to. I'll have more details regarding the schedule next week. Probably. Hey, you should know by now that I'm flying by the seat of my pants.
"Pant seats to fly by." Heh.
Anyway. The most important thing I can say to you now is... Happy Halloween! I hope you have a lot to look forward to, a lot to enjoy, a lot to fear, and a lot of people to share it all with. It's been my pleasure to provide you with monsters all these years.
Dah, there I go. Tuck away the violin, comic's not over yet! I better save that stuff for the actual final pages. You all just watch out out there, alright?
Lots of freaks handing out candy, I hear.
I guess we only change so much. That and we can't just stop having feelings at will.
Would it be bad form to request that one of the final panels be presented in suck-o-vison?

Would be interesting to see if he can even *do* that kind of thing anymore since his style has grown so much...
actually things like that tend to move awkward situations forward. Still ruins the mood though.
Indeed. With all the supernatural threats to endure, none of them would have foreseen getting it, long and hard, from the police.
Wait. Zebra girl is ending? Nooooooo. I guess this is what I get for not reading the comments more often
You are a master of the essence of Halloween! Thank you indeed for all the delectable mysteries and monsters.
Man... I'm gonna be sad to see Zebra Girl end. But I guess it had to at some point. I'm glad to see it end without being dragged out. I can only hope that after Zebra Girl ends, there's another story that comes after, maybe in the same universe, maybe in a different one, maybe with some of the same characters, maybe with different ones.
I guess what I'm trying to say is please don't stop telling stories, Joe, because you're really good at it and I want to see the other stories you have to tell.
I just want to thank Joe England for nearly two decades of work on Zebra Girl. I've seen him go from "reasonably creative amateur" to "superb comic artist", line by painstaking line, and it has been a joy to witness.
I'll be sad to see Zebra Girl end, but maybe after a few months inspiration will strike and we'll get a new cast of characters to watch grow.
Also, thanks, Joe, for not going the way of David Sim and having Sandra die alone and unmourned.
Happy birthday to me.
Happy birthday to me.
That Phooka's butt is so sexy.
Happy birthday to me.
I'm a bit confused.
You, relatively, recently introduced a few new plot threads, in the form of the zombie bunnies and the ever increasing bust sizes, the later of which even caused a bit of controversy, but it doesn't seem like there's enough time left to do anything with either. Did I miss something?
My guess? Cutting room floor. Maybe he can draw some bloopers or the cast over a table reading their lines and going "this ain't gonna work, Joe, toss it."
I assure you, I'm not in the habit of dropping loose ends. There's still some time left to spend.
You guys should know better. Joe just closed a ~15 year old loop like not twenty comics ago. The man's dedicated. No stone left unturned!
No toast left unbuttered!
Every dog has its day!
Render unto caesar what is caesar's!
I think this is getting away from me here...
Hey Joe, I'm glad that the story is coming to an end; in my opinion, stories with a definite ending are better than those that keep on going. Don't get me wrong, I love read Zebragirl. It's definitely one of my favorite webcomics.
Can you at least post a progress meter or something to keep us up to date every 3 or 5 days?
Hell, if you're finishing the pages off, present 'em all in one post. A lengthy goodbye to the comic or something.
(accidently pressed enter)
Will we ever find out who Mr. Chalk is before zebragirl ends? Or will he be popping up in your next series? (assuming you'll still writing)
Wasn't Mr. Chalk that elder demon that Zandra was connected to?
I'm still floored that ZG is ending somewhat soon, but a hiatus makes perfect sense. As sad as I am to see this story end I can't wait to see HOW it ends.
Oh man, right? What a great side plot outta the blue. I didn't even see it coming.
"Now, Betty. That's not what I meant when I said to put your toys away. Betty? Put that back where you found it!"
I don't think I've ever commented before, but I did submit fanart ages ago. Your art has actually been a huge inspiration to me, and I may have lifted bits here and there in developing my own style, hah.
I used to compare my art quality to the first few pages of the comic. Eventually through lots of practice my technique caught up to that level, but by then you'd gotten so much better - so in my mind I always hold the thought, "Well, I'll just keep getting better, too."
I'm sad the comic will end, but glad I've been along for the ride for so long.
I think a new series with betty and the police officer moving from town to town become wardens for the upheaval that is coming to the world would be a great story.
I dedicated a whole Sunday to re-reading the archives so I can be prepared for the final close... all I've got to say is thanks. Thanks for this story, the characters, and all your hard work, Joe. Looking forward to seeing everything through. What a journey.
Whenever my friends question the improving power of perseverance and effort i point them at ZG.
i have been reading since around page 20 and the ending of the journey is bittersweet. On the one hand resolution is good but on the other there will be a noticeable hole in my weekends.
I don't really recall precisely when I first started reading ZG. I know it was a while ago, since I remember when you posted the story with the little rabbit visiting Zandra.
In any case, it's been a pleasure. Looking forward to what comes next!
On that note... Now Sandra gets to find out what happened in those years of episodes she's missed!
I wonder how much of a scolding Jack will get for sleeping in the streets.
Did the panel give anyone else a vibe of "Sandra's finally back"? And yes, I do mean Sandra.
Last two panels, actually. Could be because of the eyes. I don't remember the last time I saw her eyes so open, so human, so like the rest of the scooby-gang. Even if, objectively, someone says "Oh yes, they were last drawn like that recently in page so-and-so, panel this-and-that", subjectively it feels like I haven't seen her like this since Gregory fully unleashed the demon in her. It is really starting to feel like homecoming.
Wow, does she have moxie. She is making demands and threats to a Demon, a Werewolf and a mage that just fired a indoor nuke. All while being held by a Pooka that she saw filleting a Vampire just recently.
You have a next project, don't you? You're going to keep making comics aren't you? You don't develop a skill like this to just retire at the height of your game
While I'm pretty bummed it's ending, I'm really hyped to read the ending.
I'm also sort-of kind-of hoping that the "last" chapter is actually a CLIFFHANGER to the "actual" last chapter. If only coz I feel like this particular demonic swan-song deserves every concession.
Which is to say; great comic, brother.
1: I REALLY like that cop. That took guts.
2: What is that Pooka going to do to her? Am I the only one who got a sexually predatory vibe out of that giggle? "Enjoy what I am about to do to you..."
3: By "handle it together," does she mean explaining things to the cop or convincing the Pooka not to do things to an officer of the law?
I'm sad its ending, but also excited to see the grand finale.
So this regular form of comic will end. But it won't stop you from getting back for some "dailies" when you tackle your next project, Joe. Or maybe some guest appearances. It's not like you say "OK. I'm a pretty good comic artist now. Let's drop the pencil and let's explore country music.". Oh, please.
Been here since the beginning. Think I can survive one more long wait. ;) Whatever’s best for the story that ends up being told.
Hi Joe
Have been reading this comic on and off from about number 10, and don't think I've commented before, but just wanted to say thank you.
Though the update schedule haven't always been as punctucal as could be wished, I've always enjoyed returning to zebragirl, starting over and reading op til the latest page, so, thank you for a great story.

God, I love this comic.
Sad to see it end. Bring us Mr. Chalk before that happens.

I don't think I paid close enough attention before, but all throughout this page I can see her wings clearly. She's got some nice bone structure revealed there. =)
I just have one burning question...
Does Black Betty have a child?
Of course! She's decided that Officer Suze is her child now. She's so proud.
Seriously though, Pook procreation is a shady topic at best. Betty has existed for a long, long time, and what constitutes offspring is a matter of debate. Does she have children NOW? I'm going to say... probably not. But has she EVER had children? It's a mystery.
